Brazil has 4 different time
zones. The "world's rarest" hour (full hour
time zone) is Greenwich mean time (GMT) -2 hours. On
that time zone are only Fernando de Noronha's Islands
on the coast of Brazil. There are only 2000
inhabitants.
Southern Brazil uses daylight
savings, shifting the clock one hour forwards during
the summer (summer in southern hemisphere). Northern
Brazil doesn't use daylight savings, so for
example during the summer the northern coast is GMT
-3 hours, and southern coast of Brazil is GMT -2
because of daylight savings.
So... if you are on the
northern hemisphere and your country uses daylight
savings during the summer (summer on northern
hemisphere), you will notice that the time difference
between your country and Brazil changes several times
per year, because of:
- daylight savings on in
your country
- no daylight savings on in
your country, nor Brazil
- no daylight savings on in
your country, daylight savings on in Brazil
For example the time difference
between local time in Finland and local time in
southern states of Brazil can be 4, 5 or 6 hours
depending on the time of year.
"Summertime" starts
11th of October in Southern Brazil (at least the
states of Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná). In Europe
daylight savings end 25th of October.
