21 February 1991 (Thursday): DAY 36

GENERAL:

v Cheney authorizes the National Defense Service Medal as 2 Aug to all military

v Hussein declares that Iraq is ready to fight the ground war

AIR WAR:

v By the third week of February, the USMC, led by General Boomer, had pulled virtually

all of their tactical air resources from the strategic air campaign to concentrate on

targets in southern Kuwait that would be on their line of march.

F-117 HIGHLIGHTS (21Feb/Day 36):

v Day 36/Wave Two: 7 x F-117's from the 416th TFS

7 x F-117's from the 415th TFS

- takeoff during the p.m. of Day 36/21st to hit targets on Day 36/21st

- Scored 26 hits with 28 PGM attempts (93%) with 1 x no-drop

- Ammunition Storage Facility at Ad Diwaniyah

- An Arms Manufacturing Plant in Al Iskandariyah

- An Ammunition Depot in Habbaniyah & at Al Taqaddum Airfield

- The Test Facility in Al Musayyib (415th target scoring 12 out of 12)

v Day 37/Wave One: 4 x F-117's from the 416th TFS

6 x F-117's from the 415th TFS

- takeoff during the p.m. of Day 36/21st to hit targets on Day 37/22nd

- Scored 13 direct hits with 20 PGM attempts (65%), 2 no-drops

- Communication and Radio Relay Stations at Al Amarah & An Nasiriyah

- Bridges & Bunkers were hit as alternate targets

- Early Warning Facility at Al Habbaniyah

- Al Taqaddum Airfield

- International Radio Communications Center in Bagdad

- The Biological Warfare Development Center at Taji

- A possible Chemical Warfare Production Center at Habbaniyah

v Day 37/Wave Two: 8 x F-117's from the 416th TFS

6 x F-117's from the 415th TFS

- takeoff during the p.m. of Day 36/21st to hit targets on Day 37/22nd

- Scored 24 direct hits with 28 PGM attempts (86%)

- Suspected Chemical & Biological Weapons Storage & Production Facilities at

Habaniyah & Latifiya

- A Fiber Optics Repeater Stations in Karbala, Tallil, & As Samawah

- A Radio Relay Station at Al Hallal

- H-2 Airfield

LOSSES:

v 1 x MH-60 Special Ops Helo

- crashed in Iraq

- seven killed

- could be confused with the loss on a UH-60 on same date

SCUDS:

v (2) SCUD's fired against Israel, (3) against Saudi Arabia
