16 February 1991 (Saturday): DAY 31

GENERAL:

v Iraqi Losses are Totaled as:

- 1400 tanks

- 800 armoured vehicles

- 1200 artillery pieces

v Bush visits Raytheon in Massachusettes

AIR WAR:

v 2600 sorties, cumulative sorties pass 75,600

- 700 in the KTO

- 170 against the Rep Guards

- 150 against SCUD's

v Cpl Jeff Middleson (23) and Pvt Robert Tally (23) were both killed by LtCol

Ralph Hale, who commanded a three-ship of Apache's who were looking for Iraqi

located forward of the US lines. Helfire's took out two friendly vehicles.

v Iraq claims the British killed 130 civilians

v US troop strength exceeds 523,000

 

F-117 HIGHLIGHTS (16Feb/Day 31):

v Day 31/Wave Three: 6 x F-117's from the 416th TFS

4 x F-117's from the 415th TFS

- takeoff during the p.m. of Day 31/16th to hit targets on Day 31/16th

- Scored 14 hits with 20 PGM attempts (70%)

- Return to the SCUD Missile Research & Development and Production Facilities

in Mosul (all 416th TFS)

- Suspected SCUD Missile Facilities at Ash Shargat (all 415th TFS)

- The Shahiyat Rocket Engine Test Facility

v Day 32/Wave One: 14 x F-117's from the 416th TFS

- takeoff before sunset on Day 31/16th to hit targets on Day 32/17th

- Scored 21 direct hits with 24 PGM attempts (81%)

- Strikes against Hardened Aircraft Shelters at: Tallil, Ubaydah Bin Al Jarrah,

and Kut Al Havy

- 2 x A/C attacked the Basrah Railroad Yard

- 1 x F-117 ground aborted, 13 x reached objectives

v Day 32/Wave Two: 14 x F-117's from the 415th TFS

- takeoff before sunset on Day 31/16th to hit targets on Day 32/17th - Scored 24 direct hits with 27 PGM attempts (92%)

- Revisited the Basrah Railroad Yard

- The Tactical Direction Finding Site at Dibdibba

- Radio Transmitters, receivers, and relays at Al Jahrah

- Radio Repeater Station at As Samawah

- The Um Qasr Military Baracks

- SCUD Missile Support Facilities at Al Jahrah

LOSSES:

v 1 x A-10 Warthog

- Located in northwest Kuwait targeting the Republican Guards

- assumed to be AAA/handheld SAM

- both pilot and aircraft are missing

SCUDS:

v (1) SCUD fell near Jubayl at 0200

v (4) TEL's and (2) SCUD's are destroyed
