Day 25: 10 Feb 1991

 

10 February 1991 (Sunday): DAY 25

GENERAL:

v Day 25. Allied air losses in combat are put at: US 15, UK 5, Italy 1, Kuwait 1

1 x AV-8B Harrier lost over southern Iraq, the pilot listed as MIA.

32 x Iraqi aircraft have been destroyed in air-to-air combat. Coalition forces

have suffered no air-to-air combat losses. Forty-four airfields have been targeted

for attack. A total of 38 have been attacked in 1,300 sorties. Nine are considered

non-operational. TV networks have new video of bombing attacks on hardened

aircraft shelters, bridges and other targets. Thirty-one nuclear, biological or

chemical targets have been destroyed. These are facilities that could contribute to

production of such weapons in Iraq.

AIR WAR:

v Secretary of Defense Cheney & JCS Chief Gen Powell visit the 37th TFW

v 2800 sorties flown

v B-52's got large secondaries after strikes on Rep Guards

v F-15E's destroy three SCUD TEL's near Jordan, and one near Saudi

v The July 14th bridge collapses and the Martyr's bridge is damaged

v 2 x A-6E's destroy (2) patrol boats in Northern Gulf

v (44) airfields have been targeted, a total of (38) have been hit with

1300 sorties. (9) are considered totally removed from the war.

v Kill Total remains at 35

v UK Tornado's utilize the TIALD laser designation system for the first time

 

F-117 HIGHLIGHTS (10Feb/Day 25):

v Day 25/Wave Three: 4 x F-117's from the 416th TFS

6 x F-117's from the 415th TFS

- takeoff during the p.m. of Day 24/9th to hit targets on Day 25/10th

- Scored 6 hits with 9 PGM attempts (67%) & 9 no-drops

- Ammunition Depots at Kirkuk and at Qayyarah West Airfield

- Qayyarah West Aerodrome itself

v Day 26/Wave One: 6 x F-117's from the 416th TFS

4 x F-117's from the 415th TFS

- takeoff before sunset on Day 25/10th to hit targets on Day 26/11th

- Scored 18 direct hits with 20 PGM attempts (90%)

- SAM Sites at Al Taji, Saad, Bagdad, Samarra, & Al Iskandiriyah

v Day 26/Wave Two: 6 x F-117's from the 416th TFS

8 x F-117's from the 415th TFS

- takeoff before sunset on Day 25/10th to hit targets on Day 26/11th

- Scored 19 direct hits with 25 PGM attempts (76%)

- 415th TFS pilots concentrated on the Taji armored vehicle repair facility

- Buildings at the Saddam Hussein International Airport

- the Latifiya Liquid Rocket Propellant Production Plant

- 416th TFS focused on the Signals Intelligence Center at Al Taqaddum

- Hardened Aircraft Shelters at Saddam Hussein International Airport

- SSM Production Facilities at Latifiya

- the AL Haqlaniyah Radio Relay Station
