GENERAL:.
v Bush State of the Union, US & Soviet Presidential Summit postponed to February.
v Germany pledges $5.5 million more
v US troop level exceeds 500,000 and coalition troops make up 200,000 more
v Iraq claims that 1 x POW was killed serving as a human shield at the Ministry
of Industry and that 324 x civilians have died in allied bombardments.
v The Italian Naval Commander Admiral Buracchia, was forced to resign when he
said that the "war could have been avoided if we'd been smarter". He was
replaced by Admiral Martinotti.
v 13th MEF recaptures Umm al Maradim Island.
v The French Defense Minister Chevenement resigned because he could not
support the war and felt that it was going beyond the UN Mandate and the use of
French aircraft in bombing Iraqi targets. He was replaced by Pierre Joxe.
v The European Council voted 179 to 4 for "Full Support" for the Allied Effort
v US denied that it bombed Moroccan Troops
v US, UK, & Saudi Helos attacked a fleet of 17 x Iraqi Commando boats heading for
Khafji. Three were sunk immediately, aircraft persued and killed seven more.
v Huge oil slick at Sea Island Terminal from US Bombing began to break up.
v Artillery and Rocket duals produce secondarys and FROG Battery destruction
v Mech-Armour battle at Umm Hujul by USMC and Iraqi's
- along Kuwait's N-S border with Saudi in the West
- Iraq employed 3 x BN's in a three-pronged attack at18:30
> 20 x T-55 Tanks crossed into Saudi territory
- Iraqi's lost 20 armoured vehicles from artillery and air strikes
- 11 x Marine KIA, 7 from LAV hit by US Maverick, 4 from Iraqi arty
- Cluster Bomb dropped on US Column, no casualties
v Iran test fired SA-6 SAM missiles on 27 Dec 90, confirming that they have
purchased a considerable amount of new Russian hardware. It also announced
that they would be producing large quantities of long range missiles.
v USN SH-60 and UK Lynx Helo's sink 17 small boats and Large PB is sunk
by a Sea Skua from HMS Cardiff...was part of Khafji Convoy
v To date, 200,948 National Guard & Reserve personnel have been called up

AIR WAR:
v US says that 80 x Iraqi aircraft have flown to Iran
v The F-111F aircraft based at Taif AB start their anti-bridge campaign to isolate the
Republican Guards below the Eupredes River. BLU-109 warheads which work so
well against hardened shelters punch through bridges which makes the crews return
to older Mk-84 configured LGB's. Some GBU-15's are utilized.
v Iraq actually launches its first air attack across the Saudi Border at Khafji
v scattered clouds interferes with reconnaissance
v 2600 sorties flown
- total reaches 27,000
v at least 90 Iraqi aircraft are considered to be in Iran
- most F-1's are considered to be with these
v US bombers hit the Um Qasr Naval Base damaging an OSA Patrol Boat and (2)
Silkworm sites on Al-Fao.
v British Jaguars also destroy a Silkworm Site with CBU-87
v The UK announces that 80% of Iraq's refinery capability is destroyed
v Aircraft destroyed a column of 24 armoured vehicles inside Kuwait
v A-10 using IR Maverick hit USMC LAV, 7 KIA's
F-117 HIGHLIGHTS (29Jan/Day 13):
v Day 13/Wave Three: 6 x F-117's from the 416th TFS
4 x F-117's from the 415th TFS
- Scored 15 hits with 17 PGM attempts (88%)
- takeoff during the evening of the 29th to hit targets on the 29th
- 1 x aircraft air aborted leaving 9 x F-117's to press the attack
- Rasheed Airfield
- Chemical & Biological Warfare Facilities at Salmon Pak
- The Republican Guard Headquarters in Bagdad
- Abu Ghurayb Biological Warfare Facility
- Ammunition Bunkers at Karbala, Falluja, and Bagdad
v Day 14/Wave One: 10 x F-117's from the 415th TFS
- Scored 14 hits with 20 PGM attempts (94%)
- takeoff during the evening of Day 13/29th to hit targets on Day 14/30th
- Main Targets were obsured by bad weather, went to alternatives
- Highway Bridges at: Al Kifl, Ar Ramadi, and Al Fifl
- the ammunition depot at Karbala
- a "fiber optics" bridge at Al Jumhuriya
v Day 14/Wave Two: 10 x F-117's from the 416th TFS
- takeoff 37 min after Wave One, during the evening of Day 13/29th to hit
targets on Day 14/30th, but had weapons systems problems
- 1 x aircraft ground aborted leaving 9 x F-117's to press the attack
- Scored 6 hits out of 14 PGM attempts (43%) & 2 x no-drops
- Ammunition Dumps at Karbala and An Nasiriyah
- Steel Fabrication Plant at Taji
- The Presidential Grounds at Abu Ghurayb
- The Iraqi Air Force Headquarters in Bagdad
- Iraqi Central Intelligence Headquarters in Bagdad
- The Nuclear Research Center in Bagdad
