V/A:BETTER TOMORROW? vol 2-CD
I have to say, this one is really cheap compilation, almost 60 minutes music on the
cd! NO SUPPORT beats every band on Lost & Found label, but this band sounds like some
of L & F bands... I think that it is somekind of SxE Hardcore, without knowing what
the band stands for..At least good songs with good production and young aggressive
attitude. TOTUUS ("The Truth") plays middle of '80s kind of stuff, I was afraid
that the band was even more terrible, but how wrong I was. Sometimes it sounds like
Terveyskeskus, probably the vocals do it! Not a panic scream, sometimes I can hear what
they are singing! But I have to say that 60 minutes long Totuus CD will be too much.
KASTRAATIO is a worst band on that CD, but not a shit band anyway. Female vocal and violin
screaming. Often violin brings some difference to music, but not in this case, maybe they
don´t know how to use it, or maybe I have something in my ears. Songs are pretty good
anyway, and maybe I will say something else in future. DISCO. comes from Pori, and you
know, they make very weird music in Pori. It´s hard to say something about this band, but
very strange (do I hear some NoMeansNo influence?) with English lyrics. Good enough
anyway. WIND OF PAIN is Dis-band, which sounds like a swedish band, even they come from
Helsinki, get a little bit Anti-Cimex and Wolfpack and mix it well, and you get this one.
SHARPEVILLE is a new band for me. What a pleasant surprise!! They sound like some English
band in the middle of '80s, specially I get some Conlict or Amebix feedbacks. Propably
double vocals, and fuck they sing so many words that I can´t follow. But hell, I have to
get more this one.

Merwi-records have a new 7" available - again, its
split (labels speciality) between URBAN RIOT, who sound a bit West Coast
USA if you get my drift, plying speedy tuneful HC with cry-baby vocals, and HYLKIO,
who sounds
Finnish! They pay homage to Fin legends like RATTUS and TERVEET KADET.
Its fast and noisy, with insanely shrieked vocals and I liked it, even if it does
sound like it was recorded in a septic tank.

And Merwi 005 is a split between Yes Means Yes and Odeema.
Yes Means Yes are like A.C., a bad joke with the musical prowess of a farting elephant
which shouldnt have ever seen the light of day. Theres 48 songs on their side
of the 7" , with titles like We are losers, but so what? and
Swallowed your own shit. Odeema are thankfully miles better, their intensity
rising above the quit production.
-Ian Glasper/Terrorizer
The YESMEANSYES/ODEEMA split 7" is a noisy
excursion unlike most. YMY stumbles thru 48 blendercore attacks utilizing an upright piano
among other things. Odeema brings some sanity and structure back with five straight
forward, trailblazing thrashers. Those zany Finns.

BETTER TOMORROW? Vol 2
Excellent comp of Finnish bands that span the spectrum of punk, from modern hardcore(No
Support), traditional Finnish hardcore (Totuus, Wind Of Pain) to anarcho punk
(Sharpeville) and all points in between. The two bands that made the strongest impression
for me were Kastraatio and Disco. Kastraatio are an all female band who play bare bones
hardcore punk with a violin mixed in with the guitars and drums.. They sound like they
could have easily been on the PEACE comp, had they been around at the time.
Disco are crunchy modern-ish hardcore. The sound is thick with hard hitting rhythms that
smack you repeatedly like a ton of bricks. Powerful, yet slightly catchy. The screaming on
the song, Vaneria is ungodly. By all means pick this up. Great stuff.
