The counter on our Finnish pages just passed 2600. Even you foreigners are constantly visiting our pages even though we again neglected to update them for a long time. Sorry. Don't give up hope, we've got lots of interesting things in the pipeline. :)

August 9, 1998:

Do not adjust your Internet connection ! There is nothing wrong with it. Yes, that is not a deerhound but Alpo, the beautiful dachshund who won our May Match Show. If you wish to see more pictures from that show they are available on our Finnish pages.

We apologize for our long break in updating the pages. Its just that getting all the 40 pictures of the Match Show up on our web pages took forever so now we're well behind schedule - coming up later we have some pictures of the World Dog Show and lots of other stuff.

Added a page for the strong-willed Hector. What an impressive dog ! Special thanks to Marja-Leena Arhima for the pre-scanned images.

Added a page for our September 13 Unofficial Deerhound Specialty. This should be fun !

Added a link to the famous Kilbourne kennel's internet pages on our Links-page.

Finally updated our MaSkotti OnLine page with a summary of MaSkotti 2/98. Sorry for the delay.

May 10, 1998:

We apologize for not having updated our pages for several weeks ! It seems April was a very short month and we had a lot of other things to take care of. But we will attempt to resume our regular update intervals...

Added a page for Milla, the quick and beautiful huntress.

Updated our page of mistaken identities: That must be one of those.... Thank you Chelsea and her puppy Rime, and also Marja Kontio for the experiences !

On our Finnish pages, we are getting ready for our Match Show which will take place on May 31. Why run a Match Show, you may be wondering ? Well, our Club articles state that one of the functions of our club is to increase public awareness of our breed. And a Match Show is a good occasion to introduce Deerhounds to dog owners, many of whom know little or nothing about the breed. We will have pictures and results on our Finnish pages but - since we do not anticipate to meet lots of new Deerhounds at the Match Show - at present we do not plan to translate those pages for our international audience. Unless, of course, we get lots of e-mail asking for a translation.

But we will be bringing you full coverage of the Deerhounds at the World Dog Show 1998. We're all very, very excited about this event ! Some 15 000 dogs have confirmed their participation in the show. The Deerhounds will be shown on Sunday, when over 4000 dogs will be on the floor. Our Club members are already grooming their dogs. Our Club photographers have been seen carrying home loads of film and new camera equipment. We can hardly wait ! If you are coming to the show, we'd like to hear from you ! Please contact Miss Salla Klemetti. At the show you will instantly recognize us... we're the people with the Deerhound shirts, the big cameras and wide smiles... and we're hugging your Deerhound ! But before leaving for Finland, please check on our pages for any last minute information on the show or related Deerhound activities. For instance, there will be a track meet on Saturday, the day before Deerhounds are shown.

Our English pages have now been available for the public for a year. We hope you have had as much fun as we ! We wish to thank Miss Sanna Jääskeläinen and Ms. Annele Kinnunen for the photographs. Much of what you see on our pages is Sanna's work (many of them signed with her distinctive signature), she is a wizard with the camera and we hope to have more of her work in the future. Annele has almost single-handedly provided us with this year's photographs from her own collection. All those pictures of Tjakkeli and his puppies have come from her. A big thanks to both of these ladies. And yes, if there are any more pictures you know where to send them !

March 22, 1998:

Added two pages for Magbeth's kennel's 1997 puppies. Watch out, these dogs are cute ! You have been warned: Jerry, Linda and Emmi and Hiisi, Mysi and Kaisa.

Updated our page of mistaken identities: That must be one of those.... Thank you Devi the Deerhound for those funny stories !

Updated our MaSkotti OnLine page with a summary of MaSkotti 1/98 and a glossary for those of you who would like to try make heads or tails of our magazine.

February 22, 1998:

Added a page for mistaken identities: That must be one of those....

January 24, 1998:

Added a page for the mighty Galerita's Tjakkeli.

Added a page for Dora, a warm-hearted Deerhound who enjoys hugs.

On our Finnish pages, added Marianna Autio's article Viisas - viisaampi - skotti (Marianna Autio, 1/94), Wise, Wiser, Deerhound - two stories about exceptionally smart Deerhounds - to our MaSkotti OnLine. In Finnish only, sorry.

Our Finnish pages have now been open to the public for a year. During this time we have amassed 1300 hits on our Finnish pages and almost 300 on our English pages, and had numerous new contacts with Deerhound enthusiasts all around the world (yes, you know who you are !). Thank you very much for your interest !

For 1998, we will have... ahem, more of everything :) There will be more pictures (though we already have some seventy of them and have twice run out of room on the www.sci.fi server) and more articles, hopefully some in English too. We are trying to think of creative, new ways of threatening our translators so that they will finally get the last untranslated part of our pages, The Breed (a description and history of the Deerhound) into English. The problem with this article is not so much its length as its lack of cohesion and general organization which, while just barely acceptable in Finnish, actually prevent its translation into the much more strictly organized English language. A rewrite of the original Finnish article was started in December.

This summer Finland hosts the World Dog Show 1998. We hope to be able to provide our readership with pictures and commentary of Deerhounds from all around the world taking part in this great international event. In the fall, our Club will again host the yearly Deerhound Specialty and, weather permitting, we will have yet more pictures...

All in all, we are looking forward to an interesting 1998. Stay with us !
