Illusia, Essentianan Verdana. When she was still a puppy Illusia hurt her leg but there is no trace of that now.

It can be quite exhilarating to watch Deerhounds run. The powerful leaps combined with the great speed really convince you of the strength of these large dogs. You can feel the momentum when a Deerhound gallops past you, intent on catching the lure.

Magbeth's Bianca, Emmi.

Finnish track records are held by Beryhill's Robert. In the early Nineties Robert was timed covering 280 meters (306 yards) in 19.6 seconds for an average speed of 51.6 km/h (32.1 mph). His time on 480 meters (525 yards) was 33.45 seconds which is 51.7 km/h (32.1 mph) average speed.

Tiikeri and Kössi, Loch Beltane Bas - Bleu.

You can instantly tell that a running Deerhound is having loads of fun. All the energy built up during the waiting is channeled into a sprint on the track...

Recent import Greg, Manticorns Gregori, had probably already been to many a coursing practice before this track meet.

After an outing on the track a Deerhound is completely drained but happy and ready to spend the evening on the couch, dreaming of rabbits. Having a tired but content dog is any dog owner's goal.

The pit lane is a great place to rest for a while.

While Hounds are running on the track the pit lane is teeming with activity. This is a great place to meet Deerhounds and their owners.

Glenda, Charbonnel Ballad. This position of front legs is her trademark.

A Deerhound is a versatile dog with whom you can participate in all kinds of activities...

The Backmans' Irish Wolfhounds in turn number one. Wolfhounds are
larger and heavier than Deerhounds which explains their slightly slower speed on track.

...but Deerhound owners often have other kinds of dogs as well. Commonly they too are sighthounds and can be taken along to Deerhound events. One of the most common other dog breeds is of course the Irish Wolfhound - it is easy to fall in love with one of these magnificent creatures.

Borzoi Mia, Alesnian Almiel Romanova is an experienced track sprinter.

Glenda and Mandi. These girls were apparently Finland's only Deerhounds possessing track racing licences in 2001.

We are hoping to see some Deerhounds at track meets in the future. Judging by this practice in Tampere our Hounds have great potential. We had a lot of fun and hope that the Tampere coursing enthusiasts will some day organize another track meet for us Deerhound people !
