About These Pages

Important

Skotlanninhirvikoira.net (this site you are reading right now) is no longer the official web page of the Scottish Deerhound Club of Finland. You can access the Club's pages via this link. On the Club's pages you will find more information on Deerhounds, pictures, show results, links and Deerhound memorabilia.

The Past

I was the webmaster for the Scottish Deerhound Club of Finland from 1997 to late 2002. The concept of a web page was introduced to the Club's Board at the 1996 Unofficial Deerhound Specialty and the web pages were officially opened in early 1997. These English pages appeared during the summer of 1997. At the beginning there were frequent updates but later I began to have more and more things to take care of besides these pages and the interval between updates became longer and longer.

The driving motivation behind the creation of our website was the desire to tell the whole world about our Deerhounds. And it worked, we have had hundreds of people from all over the world browsing our pages. A few score have also corresponded with myself and/or with the various Club officials who had their e-mail addresses listed on our contact information page. We've all found lots of friends and acquaintances on the Net.

Lots of material - stories, pictures, show results - were sent in by Club members, for which I'm still grateful. A big thanks too to all those people all over the globe who have sent in misidentifications of their Deerhounds. Ms. Taija Jokela acted as co-webmaster for about a year and wrote a number of pages for display on the Net, including the report on our 20th Anniversary Specialty in 2000.

The Future - Skotlanninhirvikoira.net

Skotlanninhirvikoira.net (that, of course, means deerhound.net in Finnish) is now an independent Deerhound site concentrating on Deerhounds living in or hailing from Finland. We will concentrate on Hound intros, humor, coursing and such articles, and mostly leave the shows to other media. We'll try to tell something about the dispositions of these dogs and also about what it is like to share one's home and couch with a couple of large, grey-coated friends.

We have received permissions from copyright holders for most of the old material which was on the Club's page and we'll continue to add more old material as we get more permissions.

New material will appear here from time to time but we cannot promise regular updates. If you have a Deerhound of Finnish heritage we might consider publishing a picture or two here. Please contact the webmaster for additional information.
